If you’re looking to buy an iPod Player – and why wouldn’t you? – this has got to be an amazing fact:
I mean I kind of always expected when initially looking for an iPod player, not my first perhaps but certainly checking out later upgrades as potential gifts for worthy pals and family members, that the best place to go and buy one would be from the company store, the Apple Store i.e. the retail outlet of those fine people that make the glorious pieces of techno kit that I hold so dear. But then I remembered that old lyric: ” I owe my soul to the company store…”
Happy days! When we were all so innocent and couldn’t reconcile ourselves to the song’s premise of virtual slave labor and the wages that were paid those unfortunates having to be spent at the ‘Company Store’ at which the prices were set, just high enough, to keep the workers in poverty and with no choice but to keep on working forever with no chance of ever getting out of that vicious trap of work/purchase/survival!
Apposite to the Apple iPod Player?
Apple, while they have many stores worldwide – I guess even a ‘company store’ from which they sell the ipod player and other worthy techno rectangles of loveliness – are not insisting that their ‘people’ buy their ipod players from them. In fact it’s the complete opposite – Apple’s customers, many of them at least, appear to WANT to shop at the Company Store ( even if they can buy elsewhere for less). There seems to be a certain kudos involved – either that or they have very cool ‘bags’.
Yes you heard me right!
Apple fundamentalists will only buy their Apple iPod players, iPads and the like directly from an Apple shop ( or maybe the Apple web site) but preferably, no doubt, from shoving a fistful of dollars into Steve Job’s hands!
Hey! I have no problem with that! Steve, while not needing my money, would be reassuring me that I wasn’t buying a fake ipod player right? Mind you I think it might have been nice if he’d consider giving me a complimentary one – all the trouble I’m taking to promote his damn PRODUCTS!
Well let’s get over ourselves shall we? If I can save myself 10% minimum by doing without the special ‘Apple bag’ or personaI ‘Big Jobs’ service then I shall!
